Septic Installation
Our Septic system installation team is based in Everson, Washington, serving all of Whatcom County. As a local, specialized company, we understand Whatcom County weather and how to prepare a septic system for all four seasons. We take pride in our work and ensure that each septic system is designed and installed to last.
If you have an old septic system that must be replaced, we can investigate to determine how much of the original design can be used with the new septic system, including the drain field and septic tank.
Septic System Designs
Not just any septic system will do. There are several important considerations that must be reviewed before selecting the most fitting septic system and planning the layout. These include:
Household size
Soil type
Square footage
Slope of land
Water table height
Year-round weather conditions
State and local regulations
For a single family, typically a septic tank and drain field is all that's required. A septic tank is a simple device that works well with regular septic pumping and inspections. The solids sink, and the liquids are routed to the drain field.
A conventional drain field is a gravel plot with geofabric above it to keep debris from clogging the system. Wastewater passes through the gravel filtration system where it’s naturally broken down by aerobic bacteria. Aerobic bacteria need oxygen to survive, so the air pockets between gravel pieces are essential. After passing through the gravel, the wastewater enters the soil where it is further broken down by anaerobic bacteria, which do not require oxygen. While tried and true, a conventional drain field needs space to operate and cannot be installed too close to groundwater.
The chamber system is an alternative to the classic drain field in which wastewater travels through soil instead of gravel. It's an excellent choice in areas with a high groundwater table. It is often quicker to install with a smaller carbon footprint.
An aerobic treatment unit is a wastewater treatment tank that purifies wastewater naturally and effectively, simply by providing the oxygen needed for aerobic bacteria to break down the waste. Depending on local regulations and the proximity of groundwater, it may be required by law to install an aerobic treatment unit or similar system.
Cluster septic systems are perfect for a small collection of houses not connected to a wastewater treatment plant. Each house has its own septic tank installed, then the wastewater is filtered through a shared drain field.
There are also drip distribution systems, mound systems, recirculating sand filter systems, constructed wetland systems and other varieties that fit different environmental constraints, space available for installation and local guidelines.
